Title: Polish Jews a Pictorial Record
Description: NY, Schoken Books. 1976. Hardcover. Book, 1976 Hardcover, 5th printing  --POLISH JEWS - A PICTORIAL RECORD-- (31) b&w photographs by ROMAN VISHNIAC. Hired by the Joint Distribution Committee in the 1930s to photograph Jewish life throughout Eastern-Europe, before this epoch of Jewish existence with its intense religious quality ended [in the crematories of Nazi Germany].  Vishniac wrote: "these pictures were made without letting the subjects know of the presence of a camera. They represent real life completely unposed. And so today they have become documents of a lost epoch of a lost people."
