Title: 1940s Baltimore County Police Grouping- Photos, Suspenders, Whistle, Scrapbook+
Description: 0. Hardcover. Ephemera, This array of items was the property of Sgt. Ernest P. Betz of the Baltimore Co. MD Police Dept from 1939 thru 1950s. His clippings demonstrate the mind numbing prosaic nature of ordinary everyday violence, fear & thievery that a policeman faces 24/7. Letters of gratitude from victims, and official commendations attest to Betz's heroism. Several clippings picture Officer Betz's competitive nature and enthusiasm for marksmanship, long distance running, and amateur boxing. Prior to being accepted into the Dept. Betz worked 8 years as a journeyman truck & auto mechanic; some documents tell of Betz filing an official furlough from the Dept during WW2- his reason is not noted- but the request was denied. Betz then formally resigned to return to his former trade in July,1945, however he was soon reinstated in the police department (based on clippings and a 1970 membership card from the Retired Policemen's Assoc.) and apparently served for many years thereafter. Baltimore County Police grouping found together from same office. Mostly all from the 1940s - 50s. Scrapbook has photographs, newspaper clippings, letters, police incident reports, and other paperwork. Includes 2 pairs of police suspenders "Police Brace", embossed wallet, and Maryland State Police Digest of Criminal Laws- 1939 edition- and a police whistle. The album is approx. 12"x13", with 20 leaves. Several of the leaves have been repaired. Overall in excellent condition. Very Good.
