Thick Elephant Folio. 16"x10.5" & 5" thick.  24 COPPER ENGRAVED PLATES - 4 FOLDOUT MAPS. pp. x, viii, 10-849.  Genealogical Tables. Index, errata, ads. Complete with 3 engraved portrait frontispieces; 21 large near half page copper engraved plates as headers, 4 large foldout maps and genealogical tables to both volumes, some folding, there are numerous illustrations of heads on coin. 'The History of England' is a classic work, extremely rare, absolutely spectacular, complete as issued-- 12 page 'Monuments to the Kings' is present at the end of Vol. 2. Title-pages printed in red and black with engraved vignette illustration. Dedication to His Royal Highness Frederic, Prince of Wales. Handsomely bound in later original fine 3/4 calf leather bindings over matching cloth boards, spine with 6 raised bands & two gilt lettered maroon Morocco labels in 3rd & 5th compartments. Gilt stamped date 1732-1733 on 6th compartment. Volumes III & IV were published 12 years later in 1744-1745. Advert at the end states "Now publishing by Subscription at Six Pence - Each head". Rare book set in later calf leather bindings-- some wear/tear, scuffing to covers, spine, ends & corners, pages with sporadic age toning soiling, are clean & bright (See Scans below). The binding is tight and intact. The leather is smooth & supple to the touch. NB: frontis portrait of Rapin has been trimmed & tipped-in. Note: Additional postage will apply.
