The time is September- December 1966, the place is Central California, east of San Francisco. The photos are from R------ L. C------, recently deployed to Vietnam; the letters to RLC are from K---- L. C---- to her brand new swain RLC. The themes in this drama are fidelity, trust, anger, lust, and all the prosaic little forces of daily life in a small backwater. RLC and one best friend are drafted into the army- R is deployed to Vietnam & R is deployed to Germany, and 3rd best friend D----- is still home and putting moves on K while his buddy is off in Vietnam. K's best friend Anna loves D, but is spurned by him, and she then puts moves on RLC (through letters to him) in Vietnam. KLC is turning eighteen, doing well in school and has just gotten a waitressing job at a local drive-in. Meanwhile, K is mortified - her mother is drinking heavily again because her step dad has been running around. This is a 2nd marriage for mom, and K swears she'll leave home if her mom separates again. All the while her parents move the trailer to another site in the trailer park, and mom talks of moving into town. D is squiring K around to the movies, and fast rides on his bike. RLC writes to 'the girl he behind' about a Vietnamese girlfriend, K asks what's VD, and is sympathetic to the Vietnamese girlfriend because in a few months she'll lose RLC as his tour will end and K & he can be together again - this time forever. And going on also- tonsillitis, mumps, bad haircuts, hair coloring, cars & bikes, aching feet, exams, engagements and marriages etal ... Very Good.
