A pictorial history and survey of the March of Time newsreel, which debuted in 1935. Louis de Rochemont (1899-1978), who has signed this copy was awarded a honorary Academy Award in 1936 for the series, which helped define the visual presentation of news and current events over the next several decades. He was awarded a second Oscar in 1949 as the producer of the documentary short subject A Chance to Live. De Rochemont also produced a number of feature films, including the noir classic The House on 92nd Street and The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone. The final installment of The March of Time was shown in 1951, but other newsreels (notably Universal's) directly inspired by de Rochemont's model continued production until the end of 1967. Light soiling to covers with some wear to extremities (small nick/tear to top edge of front cover); two facing pages (40 and 41) with numerous small spots of skinning from previous sticking; one leaf with a bit of wear (small tears) and faint staining to fore edge; otherwise clean and good to very good overall. Boldly signed in fountain pen by Louis de Rochement, a -creator of 'The March of Time', on the front flyleaf. Good. Signed by Author(s).
