[2, blank], [2, title], [167, facsimile of Caxton’s text], [3, blank], 8 ['Remarks'], [9]-13 ('A List of the Works Ascribed to Caxton'), [1, blank], [1, 'Synopsis of Characters and Combinations used in ‘The Game of Chesse’'], [3, blank] pp. Twenty-four half-page woodcuts (the woodcut on I6 verso is duplicated on L4 verso, and is used as the design on the front cover as well). Publisher’s deluxe binding of antique-style brown calf over bevelled boards. Covers decoratively bordered in blind with a large woodcut embossed on the front cover and the William Caxton device embossed on the rear cover, spine lettered in gilt with five raised bands, marbled endpapers, edges stained red. Small expert repair at bottom of rear joint. Otherwise a fine copy. With the armorial bookplates of John Rhodes (on the front pastedown) and Samuel L. Nussey (on the front free endpaper).
