[1f.][xlviii]1129[lvii]pp. Engraved pictorial title plus typographic title. Woodcut printer's device. Aulus Gellius (ca. 125-after 180 CE) was a Roman jurist, grammarian and rehetorician. "Attic Nights" contains accounts of anything he found interesting during his stay in Athens, a sort of commonplace book. It is the source of many anecdotes, including the story of Androcles and the Lion. Internally clean in early mottled calf, somewhat dry, and chipped at spine and hinges. Bookplates ofJohnChipman Gray, the founder of the Boston law firm Ropes and Gray, and John Lowell Jr. the founder of the Lowell Institute. Only one copy in OCLC. .
