First American edition. 205 pp. 4to. quarter caramel-colored cloth with paper spine label and green paper covered boards. Boards edgeworn, slightly chipped at corners. Spine staring at top of joints, chipped 1 inch at crown, 1/8 inch at heel. Endpapers foxed. Front pastedown bears a small contemporary printed bookplate. Two Cruikshank engravings preced the title page, each with light minimal foxing at edges. Occasional foxing to the text. Good overall. Recusant melodrama, based on the Gunpowder plot. Quite scarce. .
