Allestree, a Royalist clergyman whose loyalty was rewarded at the Restoration with the post of Chaplain to the King, was also credited with authorship of the influential "The Whole Duty of Man" (London, Garthwait, 1658). Here the "Gentleman's calling" demands greater virtue because of his advantages. Internally fine in early panelled calf, uniformly darkened and abraded. (BL 1473.b.45). .
