Suppose the magnetic material is a thin layer and the magnetisation lies normal to the plane of this layer, a magniteic bubble domain is then a cylindrical domain, passing right throught eh layer with a diameter approaximately equal to its height, within which the magnetisation is all 'up', the surrounding material being magnetised all 'down'. This cylindrical region of saturated magnetisation can be made to move in any direction lying in the plane of the layer by the application of a magnetic field gradient.
