Title: In the Highest Traditions: Ran Heroism Darwin 19 February 1942.
Description: Adelaide, Henley Beach Seaview Press, 2000. 1st ed. Paperback small trade, very good condition, black & white photos, figures, tables, minor edgewear. 224 pp. This book lists all names and citations for Australian military personnel recommended for gallantry awards in the first air raid on Darwin - some are published for the first time. If the Japanese had included torpedo bombers in their strike force, 1000 RAN, Merchant Navy and US Army personnel could have been killed. The absence of torpedo bombers and dive bombers in subsequent raids on Darwin was a factor in the loss of HMAS Armidale in December 1942. The author located other records relating to the Darwin air raid while researching for this book. These records do not relate to gallantry per se, as they do not appear in other texts covering the raid. However, they are of important historical value. ISBN: 1740080750
