The binding is rubbed & bumped and the spine is faded with the head chipped. xi & 549 plus 2-page New York Ledger ad & 2-page publisher's catalog. The edges of the book are foxed & there is scattered foxing throughout with a pencil scribble on the front pastedown. The bottom corners of 2 rear leaves are creased & there is a tiny chip to the rear endpaper. There is a short tear to the front edge of pages 455/56. Good.

First American edition. Henry Ward Beecher's accounts of life in a New England village were originally published in the New York Ledger.

From the library of Cambridge Livingston with his pencil signature at the top of the title page. Livingston [1811-1879] was an important figure in the history of telegraphy. Good .
