Good. - sc A 3-1/2 inch high by 2-1/4 inch wide sienna-toned carte-de-visite portrait of the French Army General Pierre Bosquet after an 1857 painting by Horace Vernet. Mounted on 3-3/4 inch high by 2-1/2 inch wide card stock, the image shows Marshal Bosquet, standing in full regalia, with his elbow leaning against a cannon. The edges of the mount are slightly rubbed and the corners very lightly creased, though not affecting the image. Good.

Pierre Francois Joseph Bosquet (1810-1861), entered the artillery in 1833. As a captain, he distinguished himself at Sidi-Lakhdar and Oued- Melah in 1839, and was given command of native tiraileurs. Making his way up the ranks, he was one of the earliest to serve in the Crimean War and led the attack at the Battle of Alma and later at the storming of the Mamelon. Returning to France, he became a senator and a Marshall of France. He was awarded the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, the Grand Cross of the Legion d'Honneur and the Order of the Medjidie 1st Class. Good .
