The program includes the works to be performed at the recitals on August 4th, 6th and 8th, a biographical essay and quotations from reviews of Cherkassky's recent Sydney recital and of his 1927 recital at Carnegie Hall. Alexander Isaakovich Cherkassky [1909-1995] was born in Odessa, Russia. His family left for America to escape the Russian Revolution. Cherkassky first studied with his mother, a pianist and piano teacher. In the United States, he studied at the Curtis Institute for Music with Josef Hofmann, who continued to guide and advise him until 1935. He became known for his performances of the romantic repertoire and toured widely to Australia, New Zealand, the Far East, Russia and Europe. Good .
