Known as Gilbert & George, Gilbert Proesch (born 1943) and George Passmore (born 1942) collaborate on brightly colored distinctive works of art. They are known for the highly formal appearance of their photo-based graphic artwork. Born in the Northern Italian South Tyrol region, Gilbert Proesch first studied in Austria and Germany before moving to London. His collaborator, George Passmore, was born in Plymouth in the United Kingdom and studied at the Dartington College and the Oxford School of Art and subsequently studied sculpture at St. Martins School of Art where he met Gilbert. While at school, they made The Singing Sculpture, a performance art-work. Wearing suits, they covered themselves in multi- colored powder and sang for substantial lengths of time. They later became known for "The Pictures" large-scale graphic work from photographs. Very good .
