147 books and artworks are catalogued with prices in French francs. The text is in French.
The catalog is preceded by the sad story, signed "L.D.", of Monsieur Risel, a book lover and collector whose wife burned part of his collection and who finally vanished, leaving his huge library of books in a "pyramid" in his apartment. The "obtuse" police conclude he has fled to the Americas. The writer, however, believes he has disappeared into his books. He begs that if any of those who have deserted mother, wife and children for the love of books acquire a book with Risel's ex-libris in it, they should treat it gently because Risel's spirit still resides in it. Very good .
