Sir Stamford Raffles [1781-1826] was the founder of Singapore. He is less well known nowadays as a remarkable scholar and collector and as a researcher into all aspects of Malaysian and Javan civilization, languages and natural and cultural history. The essays in this book explore his achievements in those fields. Fine .
