Title: Address on the Life, Character, and Public Services of William Mckinley
Description: Washington, DC, 1904. 1st printing. pp. 32. 8vo. An original stapled pamphlet encased in its original covers. William McKinley (1843-1901) served as the 25th President of the United States from March 4, 1897 until his assassination in September 1901, six months into his second term. McKinley led the nation to victory in the Spanish-American War, raised protective tariffs to promote American industry, and maintained the nation on the gold standard in a rejection of inflationary proposals. He was the last president to have served in the Civil War. Brandgee (1864-1924), the author of this encomium, was a Congressman and Senator from the state of Connecticut. The pamphlet presents a history of McKinley's life and accomplishments. It has recently been reproduced as one of those abominable print upon request concoctions: this, however, is the original 1904 publication and although it shows minor wear and soiling to the covers, is otherwise in very good condition. 'Delivered before the McKinley Association of Connecticut at New Haven, January 29th, 1904'.
