Title: Fables and Satires, with a Preface on the Esopean Fable [Two Volumes -Complete - Bound Together - Author's Signature Laid-in]
Description: Edinburgh, Archibald Constable and Co. 1809. 1st edition. Hardcover. pp. 192, 241.12mo, A quite rare item. WorldCat recording only two institutional holdings. Our copy bears Boothby's signature, laid down on to page lv. At the top of the Preface page is written: 'E Libris Johannis Sleigh / Leek / 1811', and on the half-title page for the second volume is written: 'John Sleigh / Thornbridge, Derbyshire / 12 Nov. 1858'; one or both signatures possibly being those of John Sleigh, the author of 'A History of the Ancient Parish of Leek in Staffordshire.' Armorial bookplate inside front board with motto 'Medio Tutissimus' ('you will go most safely by the middle course'). This is a re-binding copy, only. All pages present, and it could be re-bound as two volumes, as there is a separate title page for the second volume. However, the present binding is shot. There is old, pervasive, tide mark extending from the top to below mid-point of each page, the extent declining progressively towards the end of the book. Priced with all faults in mind. .
