Title: 'the Fairbank Plan' Catalogue / Valuable Articles / Given for Coupons from the Fairbank Specialties
Description: Chicago, IL, N. K. Fairbank Company, ND (c. 1890s). pp. 32.4to,,Bound in original printed stapled card covers,An interesting retail coupon catalogue. Apparently, the Fairbank Company, in order to encourage the 19th century consumer to purchase its products, had an arrangement with retail stores to issue coupons upon the purchase of gold dust washing powder, fairy soap, Fairbank's glycerine tar soap, Fairbanl's scouring soap, and cottolene. Customers could redeem these coupons for the items in this catalogue, which displayed quite a wide array of merchandise; from jewelry, silverware and cut glass to books, musical instruments, rifles and pistols, and household goods (samples of which are illustrated in this catalogue). The card covers are well-worn and, at some distant point in the past, a mouse nibbled the top right corner. The contents are in quite good condition, with no markings or serious flaws, other than a few corner creases. Ill.: black-&-white illustrations. wrappers .
