Title: From Rattlesnake Hunt to Hockey the History of Sports in Canada and of the Sportsmen of Peel / 1798 to 1934
Description: Toronto, Perkins Bull Foundation, 1934. 1st edition. Hardcover. pp. xxvii,564.Royal 8vo. William Perkins Bulls (1870-1948) was a successful lawyer and businessman, born in Downsview, Ontario. He was Timothy Eaton's personal solicitor, and in 1908 became the youngest King's Counsel (KC) in the British Empire. As a result of an automobile accident in 1931, and the ensuing lengthy convalescence, Bull began writing. He assembled a large group of researchers and interviewers, who scoured southern Ontario for anecdotes and photographs. His first two books appeared in 1934: 'From Medicine Man to Medical Man' and this title. The works are an eclectic mix of archival material, oral interviews, and folk traditions, all gathered together with little critical analysis or discrimination. Our copy shows light shelf wear (mainly bumping to the corners), and is in the scarce original dust jacket, which is now well-worn and sunned, but still intact and serviceable. There is an photo frontispiece of the imposing figure of the author, which is signed in the plate. Ill.: black-and-white photographs. Published in an edition of 1,000 copies. Addenda and errata slip tipped-in at front.
