(4),190; (4),155 pp.The first edition was issued in 1838 Finden's ports, harbours and watering places of Great Britain. This is the revised, much enlarged edition. - The plates present the harbours and shores of England, Scotland and Wales in the most dramatic, picturesque, or romantic light possible. Depictions of port cities range from stormy scenes of wreckage to calm sunny days. The romantic views by William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854) are among the best produced in the 19th century. The plate of the lighthouse of Berwick in volume one is shown as title-vignette in volume two. William Beattie (1793-1875) wrote the descriptions. - (Some light foxing as usual). - A staggering work with the 'Views taken on the spot'. Andres 353.
