Good Condition. half-leather binding over marbled boards with, to spine, five raised bands, gilt titles to red panels & extensive gilt decoration to other panels; marbled end-papers; frontis. illustration facing pictorial title page followed by regular title page, plus nineteen additional full-page plates scattered throughout the text; Charles Lever (1806-1872) was born in Dublin. His escapades at Trinity College, Dublin, where he took the degree in medicine in 1831, are drawn on for the plots of some of his novels. He began publishing The Confessions of Harry Lorrequer in the recently established Dublin University Magazine before it appeared in volume form as his first novel in 1839. Lever's writing was highly-regarded in his day, and Anthony Trollope praised Lever's novels when he said that they were just like his conversation. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. xv + 344. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact & now in archive acetate film protection.
