Title: The Westward Quest of the Argonauts
Description: London, Printed by Hazell, Watson & Viney Ltd. 1903, First Edition. Cloth. Ill.: Engravings by John Swain & Son, London. Landscape-style hardback, 260mm x 192mm tall (11.5" x 7.75" approx.). 74pp with 140 b/w photographs. A privately published, record of what would have been one of the first cruises organised by Henry Simpson Lunn. The yacht "Argonaut" sailed from Barry on 27th November 1902 to the West Indies, with a complement of 118 paying guests and 115 crew, finishing at Marseilles in January 1903 after a voyage of sixty days including, amongst others, calls at Trinidad and Madeira. It was agreed at the outset that the "Argonautical Magazine" would be produced at intervals during the trip and the best of the matter, with photos, subsequently put together in the form of a (i.e. this) souvenir book. Light rubs to corners and rear endpaper joint tender, otherwise good in the original light-brown cloth-covered, bevelled-edge boards/brown title. Most uncommon and no copies are recorded in COPAC, and this voyage is not mentioned in the Wikipedia entry for Henry Lunn [Sir Henry Simpson Lunn]. Good.
