Description: London, The Proprietor, J.T. Pickburn. 1865, First Edition. 4to. Hardback, 190mm x 277mm tall (7.5" x 11" approx.). Pp xx, 800, with nearly 200 engravings (several of which are on unpaginated single-sided leaves, and which include an 1860 plan of Clerkenwell), plus a multi-folding, hand-coloured map and a 3pp List of Subscribers. Withdrawn from and sold by the Reference Department of Lambeth Public Libraries, Tate Central Library Brixton, with the usual stamp impressions to margins, etc. Contemporary blue buckram-covered boards/gilt spine title, with the hand-coloured folding map of Clerkenwell laid-down on linen. Light external rubs; a small condensation mark to the lower blank margin of the frontispiece portrait, and the front endpaper joint parted, otherwise good. As this volume weighs over 2 kilos even before packing, some additional postage may be required. Please ask for details of the options available before placing an order.
