Description: London, George Philip and Son. 1868, Third Edition. Gilt decorated Cloth, 8vo. Hardback, 145mm x 228mm tall (5.75" x 9" approx.). Pp vii, 50, with figures in the text plus 3 plates [two double-folding] including a large image of a compass rose, plus 82pp of Tables. Original gilt-decorated and blind-ruled, dark-green cloth-covered board/gilt title with George Philip and Son's Binder's ticket to rear pastedown. Front free endpaper has been excised and the cloth has some old damp-marking. Internally sound, although with some foxing and old fingermarking throughout, expecially to the page margins. The title continues: "Also, by the Azimuth and Altitude Tables are Found in the True Position of a Ship at Sea, The Error of the Chronometer and the Longitude. Likewise, a Treatise on Magnetism, and the Deviations of the Compass in Iron Ships, and the Method of Observing and Correcting Them by Magnets". Fair/no d/w.
