Pp xix, 662 with 32 figures in the text, plus a tissue-guarded frontispiece plate, 10 further single-sided b/w photo plates; a ground plan of Luton Church, and a double-folding table "Comparative View of the Royal Manors in Beds. circa A.D. 1086" , all as called-for. The 1899 Luton signature to the front free endpaper is that of Thomas Sworder, a local brewer and publican [purchaser of Edward Burr's brewery in 1857]. Off-set browning from the tissue-guard to the title-page, otherwise internally clean.There is however some parting of the gatherings with associated cracking of the endpaper joints which, with wear to the cloth make the volume an excellent candidate for recasing, the price having been reduced to take account of this.
