Pp lxxiii, 262 + portrait frontis. 6 plates with wood- engravings of scenes in Vire and its environs executed by J.W. Whymper from drawings made by Lionel B.C.L. Muirhead, + a similarly executed Emblematic Device of a shield suspended from apple-tree, the armorial bearings of the town of Vire, all eight plates having tissue-guards. Pages printed on mould-made paper, uncut. Top edges slightly dusty, otherwise a very good, tight copy, recently recased with new tan endpapers in the original blind-ruled, bevelled-edge brown cloth-covered boards/red-on-brown heraldic decoration to front board, with the somewhat darkened and worn spine cloth [with gilt title] laid-down.
