Description: Madrid: por Francisco del Hierro; a costa de Francisco Lasso, 1716. 4to. [12], 350p. Preliminary quire of six leaves signed ¦, followed by quires A-Y in eights (-Y8, a blank?). Title page and preliminaries slightly browned. Clean tear in E3 (repaired with transparent archival tape). 19th-century mottled calf, very slightly worn at edges; gold-tooled spine, with wear at head and foot of spine; marbled endpapers; red-edged leaves. Early shelfmarks in ink on front flyleaf and on half-title. ***** Solis is primarily remembered for his Historia de la conquista de México (1684), but he was also a a lively and witty dramatist and in addition he produced a large corpus of poetry, much of it in the style of Góngora, which was published posthumously in a collected edition in 1692 with the title Varias poésias, sagradas y profanas. Further editions appeared in 1714, 1716, 1732 and 1782. Palau 318552. This edition not in BLC but cf. Whitehead S296 for a Madrid edition of 1732.
