Contemporary calf, worn at corners and at head and foot of spine gold-tooled spine. **** Scarron made his name as the author of burlesque verse (Recueil de quelques vers burleques, 1643). In 1644 appeared his Typhon, five cantos of jocosity describing the wars of the giants against the gods. His most famous work in this vein is his Virgile travesti (1648), a parody of Virgil which was never finished consisting of eight cantos of scurrilous octo-syllables.
