Luis Caietano de Lima celebrated the life and works of King Jo‹o V (1706-1750) in a collection of Latin epigrams. These extol the King's qualities as a ruler, his love of books and gardens, his efforts to promote the arts, Portugal's relations to Brazil and many other topics. The King's lavish patronage gave Portuguese literature some strong impulses; he was the founder of the Academia Real de Historia, in 1720. This volume contains 100 numbered epigrams; it was followed by a second part in 1732.
