Full title: "A Topographical and Historical Description of the County of York; Containing an Account of Its Towns, Cathedral, Castles, Antiquities, Churches, Monuments, Public Edifices, Picturesque Scenery, The Residences of the Nobility, Gentility etc. Accompanied with Biographical Notices of Eminent and Learned Men to whom this County has given Birth (The Beauties of England - Yorkshire). Illustrated with Three Maps, and Twenty-Five Views of Churches, Castles, Gentlemen's Seats." Rebound in early grey/brown boards with remains of original cloth spine cover laid very neatly over brown cloth spine. Replaced and strengthened end-papers - restoration probably covered out prior to 1939 , the date of a gift note on the front end-paper. Contains all twenty-five required engravings but placed at rear together with all three fold-out maps rather than as amongst the text as shown in the directions There is also here an additional plate not listed in the directions of "Yorkshire Manor, the Seat of Lord Rokesby for the Beauties of England Works" which is listed for distribution after the completion of the Works (all volumes in series). Includes an undated plain title and a vignette title with a date of 1819. Boards are scuffed at corners, binding is sound, heavy foxing to the prelims up to and including the dedication page (to Rev. Francis Wrangham. Uncut (untrimmed pages) are clean with occasional minor light foxing and some trivial darkening at the upper edge of some pages. Plates are a little darkened and have a light water stain in the lower corner, mostly within the margin and are otherwise clean. Fold-out maps are clean and intact. 938, [20].
