Molfino. Alessandra Mottola, Paolo Getrevi, Fritz Saxl, Doretta Davanzo Poli and Alessandra Schiavon - A Tailor's Book from the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice

Title: A Tailor's Book from the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice
Description: Modena, Edizione Panini, 1987. First Thus. cloth in slipcase. (1987). Quarto (8"x 11"), red cloth, gilt, in pictorial jacket with matching slipcase. 70 pages of text followed by photographs of the 16th century book, in effect a facsimile of the original. A re-working of the 1936 edition. Some soil to the slipcase, otherwise a very nice copy of a scarce book. "This first complete critical edition of A Tailor's Book makes available to the public one of the most significant and valuable figurative documents of the 16th century. Equally important is its role in illustrating different ways of 'appearing in public" (or ritualistic modes of dress), historical forms of pomp and circumstance, ceremony and politics.. an exact reproduction of a 16th century manuscript now held by the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice". The 70 pages of text consists of five essays as follows: Introduction to A Book with No Name (Alessandra Mottola Molfino); "A Tailor's Book" and Modern Paradigms" (Paolo Getrevi); Costumes and Festivals of Milanese Society Under Spanish Rule (Fritz Saxl); Fashion in "A Tailor's Book" (Doretta Davanzo Poli); and Words and Numbers: Annotations in "A Tailor's Book" Alessandra Schiavon. The latter contains a brief bibliography. Very good +/very good.
