Roosevelt, Theodore - The Works of Theodore Roosevelt; the National Edition

Title: The Works of Theodore Roosevelt; the National Edition
Description: New York, Charles Scribner's Sons, 1926. Original cloth. Duodecimo (5.5" x 7.75"), green cloth with paper title labels. Top edges gilt. Varied pagination. Frontispiece portrait in volume I, some maps and sketches in other volumes. The set is complete, and is protected by the original dust jackets, which are quite scarce. There is some chipping and some very short tears at the extremities of the jackets, but they are complete with no loss. As seen in the pictures, one volume has some insect predation on the cover and one has a little on the spine. One volume is faded on the spine, and another has a small lightly faded spot. This set was prepared under the auspices of The Roosevelt Memorial Association, Hermann Hagedorn, Editor. This is a lovely set, complete with the autobiography of one of the most interesting men to be elected president of the United States. Roosevelt was a naturalist, an historian, a politician, and conservationist. He was a Progressive, and advocated for social reform and economic justice. He was often called the "conservation President," and doubled the number of National Park sites during his term. A visit to his home, Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay is a moving experience, both the home and the surrounding woods and shore. Very good/very good.
