Octavo; pp; 333, (iii), index, list of subscribers; illustrated with a frontispiece portrait and fifteen additional photographs and three maps including one in color; burgundy cloth, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt. This copy is inscribed by the editor on the front free endpaper to John G. Carter and dated at Washington D.C. January 14, 1928. John Galen Carter, the son of Senator Thomas Henry Carter and Ellen L. Galen Carter, was born in Washington. He was educated in Helena and Georgetown Prep School. He received his BA from Georgetown University in 1914 and his MA in 1915. He graduated from Georgetown Law School in 1918. In 1921, he joined the A. R. Serven law firm, and worked with cases mainly involving the government and specialized in Indian Affairs. He was a member of the American Anthropological Society. His papers are at Montana State University. Spine head chipped and cloth separating from the board edge at right,; the book block is tight and all plates and maps are present; overall a good copy.
