Root, Elihu - Elihu Root, As a Sitting Senator, Typed Letter, Signed, (Tls) One Page, (Approx. 8

Title: Elihu Root, As a Sitting Senator, Typed Letter, Signed, (Tls) One Page, (Approx. 8" X 10. 5") on U.S. Senate Stationery to Charles Andrews of Syracuse N.Y. , November, 17, 1909
Description: Washington DC, 1909. The Senator is responding to Andrews regarding his endorsement of the H. J. Blackwood for appointment as Surgeon General of the Navy. Root writes, " I have no idea what appointment the President (Taft) is considering in this connection but if Dr. Blackwood's name is brought up I shall remember your interest in him." Andrews was a former Mayor of Syracuse and a chief judge on the New York Court of Appeals, having the longest tenure ever on that body. Curiously his son William Andrews would be the magistrate in the Barnes v. Theodore Roosevelt libel case adjudicated in Syracuse in 1915. Elihu Root had served as Secretary of State & War in the Theodore Roosevelt Cabinet. Smoothed folds else very good .
