Uncommon; Theodor Carl (Karl) Julius Herzog (1880-1961) was a German bryologist and phytogeographer. Later, he attained his habilitation at Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule in Zürich under the sponsorship of Carl Joseph Schröter (1855-1939). From 1904 to 1912, he was engaged in a series of botanical excursions; Sardinia (1904 and 1906), Ceylon (1905 and 1908) and Bolivia (1907-08 and 1910-12). In 1920 he became an associate professor of botany at the University of Munich, later succeeding Wilhelm Detmer (1850-1930) at the University of Jena (1925),[2] where he remained until 1948. A leading authority of mosses, he also dealt with the systematics and phytogeography of flowering plants.
