Nice, France: C. Szwedzicki, 1933. First edition, no. 88 of limited edition of 750 copies, SIGNED by C. Szwedwicki. Vol. 1. 22 pp. text, plus 50 finely printed pochoir color plates, loose in pictorial clothbound portfolio as issued (14 1/2 x 12 inches), with ribbon tie. Fine condition with tissue guards in place for each plate, plus inserted envelope containing the errata page, with note in Szwedzicki's hand on front: "Will you please insert the enclosed errata slip in the text of the portfolio." Two-column text, in English with facing French, by Kenneth Chapman, Curator of the Indian Arts Fund and the Laboratory of Anthropology, Santa Fe, New Mexico, plus list of plates with Chapman's notes for each one. Beginning in 1929, C. Szwedzicki. a Polish printer living in Nice, France, produced perhaps the most beautiful and finely printed portfolios of American Indian arts ever to appear. Among his productions, all in limited editions, were portfolios of Kiowa, Sioux and Pueblo art. The present portfolio includes the work of potters from San Juan, Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Tesuque, Cochiti, Santa Domingo, Santa Ana, and Taos and Picuris Pueblos. A second volume was published in 1936.
