Includes 4 different magazines published by Russell Hertzog of Hiram, Ohio : THE BUCKEYE AMATEUR, Vol. 1, no. 10 (August 1901); THE MOSQUITO, Vol. 1 (September 1901); THE WILD CAT (October, 1901); and THE YOUNG EAGLE, Vol. 1 (May, 1901). Hertzog was president of the Ohio Amateur Printers Association and lists a "Directory of Amateur Papers". He was a teenager at this time and most of the other amateur magazines here were published by teenagers. For instance, THE BOY'S GAZETTE, Vol. 1, nos. 5-9 (August-December, 1900), pub. by J. Avery Brown, Little Cedar, Iowa. Other titles are THE EAGLE, Ridley Park, Pa.; THE YOUNG PRINTER, Kansas City, Mo.; THE HERALD, Putnam, Ct; and the utopian OUR FRATERNITY, "Published...In the Interests of Industrial Freedom," San Francisco, Ca. A scarce compilation of examples of amateur printing by young people.
