FORD, GERALD R. & JOHN R. STILES - *Portrait of the Assassin

Title: *Portrait of the Assassin
Description: New York: Simon & Schuster, 1965. First Edition; Second Printing. Hardcover. Light shelfwear to DJ and board edges. Previous owner's name on front free endpaper. ; A tight, solid book, dustjacket in Mylar, unclipped.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 508 pages; The only book written by one of the actual commissioners who sat on the Warren Commission investigating the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (other later books were written by Commission staff lawyers), congressman Ford actually broke the law at the time the book was published as he had used confidential information of the Commission in the book. During his time on the Commission, he was also acting as an informant to the FBI on the Commission's daily activities and findings. Ford was a believer in a single assassin and the "single bullet theory" from the beginning, going so far as to 'correct' a text passage in the report prior to publication, changing the wording describing Kennedy's "back wound" to read "neck wound". He was the Commissioner who attended the most testimony hearings, only Earl Warren himself could claim more time at the hearings. Ford remained a staunch defender of the Commission findings for the rest of his life. A 'must read' for any serious student of the JFK assassination.. Very Good+ in Very Good dust jacket .
