LANDER, S. W. (TRANSLATOR) - Fairy Bells and What They Tolled Us

Title: Fairy Bells and What They Tolled Us
Description: New York: Hurst and Co, 1902. Hardcover. B&W Illustrations; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 204 pages; Decorative green cloth boards have some soiling, shelfwear, corners bumped. Spine has small tear at top. Previous owner's name on FFEP blacked out with ink. Pages yellowed. Undated but ca. 1900 This appears to be a series of German fairy tales, translated from the German. There is no table of contents or introduction but the final chapter, called Conclusion which seems to be a conversation between the members of an English family. It is almost as if the parents are teaching the youngsters to be be guided by the lessons of the fairy tales. The stories are:The Palace of Egg-shells; The Playfellow; The Grateful Mouse; The Naughty Children; The Mittens; The Fisherman's Tom Thumb; The Money-box of Little Max; The Little Gray Man; The Comforting Angel; The Christmas Tree; The May-beetle; The Little Tormentor and a few others. The quality of the paper (quite tanned) would make for very poor images of the B&W illustrations. The paper has a heavy, sturdy quality.. Good with no dust jacket .
