Description: Author, 1914. First Edition; First Printing. Paperback. Letter part of a two part offering that includes a signed copy of the Danvers (MA) Historical Collection boo, Vol II that is signed by Captain H.N. Comey. Comey warte an article entitled "General Grenville M. Dodge, Danvers' Most Distinguished Living Son". The article follows the career of Dodge who was a Civil War General under General Sherman. Dodge then went on to design the route and build the Transcontinental Railroad. Dodge is confirming the information that Comey was to include in the article and also sent Comey a donation of $100 to the Historical Society. Letter has a handwritten note by Gen. Dodge in corner about the donation. There are two ink spots on letter and creases from being folded and placed in the book. The stationary for the letter has "Baldwin Block, Council Bluffs, Iowa" where General Dodge moved after completing the Transcontiential RR. Under Sherman General Dodge as engineer built and rebuilt many roads and bridges to enable Sherman and his troops to move rapidly to the front lines.
