Title: SATYRAE numero auctae mendis purgatae et singulae locupletiores. Editio Novissima .. Concinnante P. Antoniano Liber Secundus.
Description: Amsterdam [actually Rome], Apud Elsevirios [fictious imprint this is a false Elzevir] 1700 Woodcuts in text (36) inc. a few repeats, some nearly full page, inc. TP vignette of children dancing, also coins, costumes, artifacts etc. . Octavo plain tan leather [lacking spine leather but held by all 5 cords/edges worn with little impact on text] all edges sprinkled in red. Spine cover missing. Titlepage with large vignette +[8pp =to reader +[10pp =authors consulted & laudatory poems] +425pp. Cover page loose, binding also loose. All though the title suggests this is the complete set of satires there are only 8 of the original ones published by Sergardi. They satirise the well known author and lawyer Gravina who is here called Philodeme. Often seen as a satirical take on Roman/Vatican Society, although Sergardi was close to Pope Alexander VIII (Willems 2170). *These works were exposed as forgeries by Brunet but attributed by him to publishers in Naples, later correctly to Rome by Du Roure in his Analecta Biblio according to Willems. Handsomely printed on fine quality paper with wide margins and extensive notes on each of the satires in this volume. 2nd edition, 1st published in 1696.
