Decolouration on covers of both volumes, particular wear to edges of Vol I. Pagination excellent in both volumes however, despite some minor wear to edges. *Vol I and II chart the history of India from the first landings by European Merchants to the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Vol I ends with Clive of India's conquest of the subcontinent. Henry Beveridge was a prominent Scottish Calvinist who made a career translating the works of Calvin, he published this history of India without ever visiting. His son however was a notable figure in the Indian Civil Service, and his grandson was the prominent Liberal MP William Beveridge.
