This work contains a mass of information about the ancient world, related in dialogues between "dining philosophers" in 15 Books on a wide range of subjects - "Book XIII, for example, is an important source for the study of sexuality in classical and Hellenistic Greece" (Wikipedia). Athenaeus lists many hundreds of party references with foods and Greek authors that would otherwise be lost to us today.
