Description: London, Joshua Kirton 3rd edition corrected & enlarged 1653] . Small octavo brown cloth modern library binding, spine gilt titled with accession or shelf number 292. Recent plain end-papers, text collated complete [18]pp +418pp +[32]pp, leaf A4 bound before A3 and its conjoint [A5] before [A6]. Titlepage mounted with loss to margins, date with small hole making middle numbers unreadable, but edition is clearly stated as "The third" which accords with 1653 in British Library copy, and with printed last number "3" clearly visible at foot of titlepage (Kirton published only 3rd 1653 and 4th 1664 editions, with only 1653 edition mis-spelling Genealogy as here). Verso of title had old ink scribbles which partly show through, but illegible as page is mounted, and with Westminster library reserve stock stamp etc on the back (library stamps also on p105 & last page of index). Four pages with old marginal pen trials/notes, ink spots and handsome fancy name "Randall" to foot of p228. Some pages slightly cropped, touching but not affecting text. *Each of the heroes, Argonauts or gods is briefly described, followed by longer account of their deeds by "the Interpreter" (Ross) with their guises and adventures as recounted by the original authors in whose works they appeared. Thus for example Midas is shown by the side notes to figure in Ovid's Metamorphoses and other works with quotations given in Greek or Latin. Finally a Christian moral is sometimes added.
