Small Octavo, vi, [7]-83, [1] p., [3] leaves of plates : col. ill. ; 12 cm. Original Wooden Boards, unique in that the wood was taken from the H.M.S. Royal George. [spine in good condition, binding stable, nothing loose] 1 pullout illustration loose and disatached. Foldout illustration over frontispeice of the sinking of the Royal George, supposedly this illustration is missing in other editions. *A work accounting the sercice of the H.M.S. Royal George, a first rate gun ship in the Royal Navy and flagship of numerous admirals during the Seven Years War. The ship sunk in 1782, when it was anchored at Spithead near Portsmouth to take supplies to go and relive Gibraltar. She was sunk accidently whilst work on the hull was carried out with the loss of more than eight-hundred lives. One of the greatest maritime disasters in British waters. Slight recaunts Major-General Charles Paisley`s attempt to salvage the wreck. His operation included breaking up the wreck using barrels of gunpowder.
