Description: Geneva, Barde, Manget & Compagnie et a Paris Buisson. 1785 Engraved plates (16 as per list) mainly showing children at lessons, at play, observing adults etc. . Duodecimo (16.5x10.5cm) later leather with gilt floral decorated spine and contrasting spine title label (tips bit rubbed) All edges spckled rouge, [24]pp prelims +228pp (inc. introduction & text conversations of a father and children). Text oages and plates clean & crisp throughout. *Second edition of this translation, first published Hamburg 1783 had only 3 plates with 4 illustrations to each, this edition added 4 more illustrations, printed each on a separate plate (verso blank) and with a plate list not in 1st edition. Plate 9 misnumbered XI. This is one of the earlier books by Campe, who wrote many children's titles mainly on history and travel. His Petit Robinson and travel books went through many editions but this is much less common, indeed quite scarce (Gumuchian 1046).
