Oblong 123x188mm boards with large pictorial onlay (tips slightly worn) 16 pages (but 9 leaves as the frontisplate is stubbed to the titlepage) staples rusty but affecting only the centrefold immediately under/near the staples. Booksellers stamp to rear pastedown "E.S.Brown, Stationers & fancy Repository Rickmansworth". Front inner hinge strengthened. *Story of the field mouse family who send out invitations for a party which will have music, dancing and food with frog to wait on tables. The mouse is primarily interested in the food and drink and has made a glutton of himself and fallen asleep. As the final speeches are begun the party is interrupted by the CAT so everyone leaves in a hurry except for the mouse, who is too drunk to move. He pays the penalty for his behaviour and becomes the meal for the cat's family. Amusingly illustrated by Foster to every opening (date 1889 from Osborne Collection copy of this edition).
