Description: Hong Kong (?), An original album of Photographs, 1910. Photograph Album. An album of photographs previously owned by (and many presumed taken by) a Scottish military professional in the early 1900s, apparently an officer of the Baluch Battalion stationed primarily in Balochistan. Album measures 14 1/4 in. x 10 1/2 in. Half-leather style (corners and spine) over thick, slate-blue ledger-style boards. Photos are mounted on very thick cardboard, and affixed to the album by means of cloth hinges. The hinges, while recently strengthened, are still quite fragile. From 1900 to 1912, the 3rd Baluch Battalion operated in China as a part of an Expeditionary Force in the Boxer Rebellion. Wehrli, Kilchberg of Zurich); 37): an uncaptioned view of an alpine city, colorized.; 38) an uncaptioned view of a swiss village at the foot of a huge and imposing mountain; 39) A two-panel panorama captioned: "4561.P.Z - Interlaken", colorized.; 40) "1574 P.Z - Wengen"; 41) uncaptioned of some exterior multi-arched passage way, flanked by ornate marbled columns, location unknown; 42): a large, domed cupola; 43): more beautiful ornate columns, possibly back in India given design motifs; 44): A group photo of British and Pakistani soldiers, professionally captioned: "I. Sequeira, Karachi" (Ignatius Sequeira was a native of Goa, one of many Pakistanis who migrated back. He became famous for photographing Jinna, the founder of Pakistan); 45) A group photo of an entire military regiment or division lined up in formation, with mounted officers in the front at at both flanks.; 46); another photo by Ignatius Sequeira, this one of the British officers with their whiite mascot dog, resting before a trophy upon a table upon which is engraved: "Challenge Sindi".; 47): A very broad photo of many many peole by the water's edge, in the middle of shallow water, drinking, bathing, and animals doing the same in their own adjacent pond.; 48 & 49): two photos of population by the river, gathering water into jugs carried upon their heads, perhaps a photographer's name at lower left corner, perhaps not.; 50 & 51): two more photos, one locals in a busy hill town with dome-like housing in the background, and the second, a plain before surrounding hills. VERY GOOD .
